There are many applications for upgrading Revit families from one version to another but this one is ours - apart from just upgrading families it also knows a few other tricks. Internally, the application is known as YARFU - Yet Another Revit Family Upgrader.

Workflow
Start the application in any Revit project and avoid having any other projects or families open while running the application. Any open files might get closed without saving during the process.
Suggested use is to upgrade families to a secondary directory and monitor the process in Windows Explorer, filter and isolate families which requires different thumbnail settings. You can change settings and reprocess already upgraded families - just set the same Source and Destination directory.
The thumbnail update is especially good when families have messed up thumbnails such as below.
Reference Planes, Room Calculation Points, Dimensions, Hosts, MEP Connections and others will be hidden to create a cleaner thumbnail.
